Both eateries are a little tricky to find, but well worth the effort! The original is tucked away from the bustle of Siesta Key′s Ocean Boulevard. It's a quaint little spot with a cozy garden patio. At peak hours there's often a short wait, allowing for time to view prints and original art by local artists. Or, drool over a case of fabulous muffins, cookies and desserts. Locals say this restaurant has the best "breakfast" in Sarasota. Well, you won′t go wrong with "lunch" either. The menu has a variety of mouth-watering offerings that will have you grazing...beyond full. A selection of Sandwiches and wraps often feature a twist on the tried and true. Such as Brad's Fave; seasoned chicken breast with onions, tomatoes, melted cheddar and "pineapple pepper jelly" on grilled deli white with Cole slaw. It′s Dynamite! Then of course there′s other local favorites like the Siesta Grouper; blackened twin fillets served with Cole slaw...and, the Betty Melt; fresh chicken salad with bacon, tomato and Swiss cheese on a croissant...Yummy! If you're a soup lover, I highly recommend you try their daily specials. The Cream of Mushroom made with "only" fresh ingredients and the Cream of Ham with veggies are two of my favorites. Salad selections include 7 luscious varieties. Of course there's the usual Chef, Fruit, Chicken, Caesar, and Spinach; but, maybe Oriental Duck or grilled shrimp will tempt you? The second (and newest) location is only a fraction of a mile off Interstate 75 (exit 213) and features all the same exceptional offerings. The ambiance is brand new with comfy booths and patio seating, as well as paintings for sale by local artists . You might even sit next to a celebrity or two, like Jerry Springer or Dick Vitale. We chose a patio location and ordered the Turkey Ruben as well as Katies Own...grilled deli white with turkey, cheddar and jalapeno jelly. Both were served with chips, Potato Salad or Cole slaw. Believe me when I say...they're both EXCEPTIONAL! Yes, Dick Vitale was there and was gracious enough to give out autographs or sign his books that are sold at the restaurant. Breakfast selections are available throughout the day and will satisfy any appetite, large or small. Cereals, Eggs, Pancakes with a dozen different toppings, four different French Toasts, including the local favorite - Banana Nut Bread & Cinnamon Swirl. Maybe the Norwegian Smoked Salmon & bagel or the "Scram Sam"...3 eggs scrambled with smoked salmon & chives could satiate that appetite. There's also a Deep Dish Quiche Du Jour with fresh fruit, the Omelet du Chef, Corned Beef Hash with 2 eggs, traditional Eggs Benedict, Cheese Blintzes, Waffles and more. You will definitely find something and I guarantee you'll enjoy every morsel! Desserts are baked in-house, so make room! Cheesecakes, Carrot Cake, pies, Cookies...Fresh out of the oven and on display! LAKEWOOD RANCH DIRECTIONS: From I-75, take exit 213 and go east on University Parkway to Market Street. Turn left and take another left at Exchange Way. Broken Egg is on the right at 6115 Exchange Way. They'll be serving breakfast and lunch. Don't miss it!
SIESTA KEY DIRECTIONS: From US 41 (Tamiami Trail), go west on Siesta Drive over the drawbridge to Siesta Key. Continue on Higel Rd., through the traffic light and turn right at the first street (Ocean Blvd.), then rightt on Avenida Messsina. It′s not hard to find and there is plenty of parking on the street or in the nearby public parking lot.
